Local Bird Expert Focuses on Waterfowl Identification

Bill Young, an Arlington resident and well-known expert on birds, will present an online workshop on local waterfowl identification on Jan. 28 from 7-9 p.m. Young is the author of “The Fascination of Birds: From the Albatross to the Yellowthroat.” His travels have taken him to birding hotspots around the world and provided the background for his many presentations around the area with upcoming sessions sponsored by the Audubon Society of Northern Virginia, Alexandria Library and Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy. This includes an upcoming three-part Birds and Words workshop on Feb. 15, 17 and 22. It focuses on such questions as how bird words have infiltrated the English language and the basis for the common and scientific names of birds.
